1960 Her mother-in-law. Ethel Dougherty, did not approve of this new career, so Norma Jeane moved out of the house they were sharing. She joined the Village School, a modeling agency in Westwood, and by the spring of 1946 her hard work had landed her on the cover of thirty-three magazines, including U.S. Camera, Parade, and Glamorous Models.

Commenting on the design, Marilyn told Modern Screen, « “I’ve always admired { Oleg Cassini’s } taste and imagination in women’s clothes, and my gown is no exception. It fits snugly down to my knees and then flares out, in the Lillian Russell tradition.” With a straight face she added, “It plunges somewhat in the front, but not extremely.” One fan magazine declared the gown “the most risque design of the year”.
